Moving Stills 23 – Blooming Agave

agave cactus

The agave cactus is fairly commonplace across the Southwestern United States and Mexico. We tend to take it for granted, but it actually does 2 things which are amazing: 1.) This 4-foot tall plant blooms by growing a 20-30 foot tall tree from its center. I've lived here my entire life and I still shake my head every time I see one. And 2.) without this plant's fermented juice, we wouldn't have tequila (or margaritas!)
