Google knows a good Chris Butterworth web site when it sees one

Back in 1997, I thought I'd get a head start on the internet trend and buy my own domain name. Trouble was, somebody else beat me to it. Apparently there's a Chris Butterworth living in England (with quite an extensive list of accomplishments, I might add) who owns the dotcom version of my name, and who built a very Search Engine Optimized website around it. Type Chris Butterworth into any search engine, and his website dominated the results pages.

On top of that, Chris Butterworth happens to be a very popular name – especially on the other side of the pond. There are authors, musicians, teachers... Drop the first name and there are Butterworths everywhere Google looks – 1.32 Million results for the search Chris Butterworth!

But there's only room for one Chris Butterworth at the top of the list...

When I built my website in 2003, I couldn't find myself in the search engines. When we started this blog in 2006, I was somewhere in Google's top 10 Pages. Over the last 15 months that we've been blogging, I've watched my name rise in Google's ranks – I've been on the first page, usually with multiple entries, for the last few months.

Today was the first time I've ever appeared at the top of the list (along with #s 2 and 5), and I've got to be honest, it feels very gratifying.. Sort of a Google-recognition for 15 months of hard work.

Your taking a minute to enjoy it Realtor,

Chris Butterworth
