Classic Valley Business Signs
Remember when Phoenix had more "Mom & Pop" shops and fewer national chains? Or when a drive across town meant 20 minutes to get to the other side of I-17? I saw an article today on AZCentral.com where they're trying to put together a photo montage of older business signs from around the valley. This will be a trip down memory lane for those of us who have been in the Phoenix area for a long time.
Do you have any signs in your neighborhood that hearken back to a different era? This article has a link where you can email a picture to the reporter, as well as view a slideshow of what they've come up with so far.
Two distinctive signs that jump to my mind from my childhood are the (former) Cine Capri at 24th St and Camelback, and the (former) United Bank at 44th St and Thomas Rd. Neither of these buildings is still around, but I'm going to keep my eyes open and my camera ready over the next week! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.
